The iCalendar File (ics) or vCalendar File (vcs), both work with Outlook and one or the other will work with
nearly every calendar application there is available. VCS is a slightly older format and more widely used, however ICS is the new
standard and is being adopted by most new application.
Hitting the download button should give you the option to Open (this will load to your default calendar application)
or Save (to your desktop).
OPEN:-
As it is a full calendar it will add a new calendar to your Outlook not add events to existing one
(this is the way Outlook works (you can view both as an overlay anyway). The other thing to note is if
you download again (a more up to date version) it will create yet another calendar (just delete the old calendar).
SAVE:-
Upon download you can open your calendar application (example Outlook) and import, This will put it in
the standard Outlook acalendar and not create a new one. However if you download again and import
it will add duplicate entries to Outlook. You can delete all entries before doing this by searching on
your calendar for "Prediction League" and removing all entries.
If you load the file into your googlemail calendar you can load again and it will not duplicate (note googlemail uses the
ICS version of the file). If you load to Googlemail it will generally sync to any Android handset you have and update the calendar
automatically. If you load a new calendar it will not delete old entries or if a set of fixtures is moved it will keep the old one
there.
The download is all fixtures with a date greater than today (when you hit the button), NOT just the month on display.
The Print button will only print the month on display.
Another way to add the calendar is by linking to it. This is the cleanest of methods and means you calendar is always up to date.
BY URL:-
Outlook and Googlemail allow you to add a calendar as a link. In Outlook goto TOOLS >> ACCOUNT SETTINGS and look for the Internet Calendar tab and click NEW.
You will see the space for where you place the URL. You can find the URL by right clicking the download button and
selecting copy shortcut (in Internet Explorer) or Copy Link Location (in Firefox) then press Control and V (paste)
when you need to add the url. This will now keep you calendar up to date without ever needing to go back and download again.
You can do the same in GoogleMail, the lefthand pane has an Add calendar link, select URL and paste in the code.
Google mail is not very quick at refreshing when changes are made but it does update after a while. In Outlook it will
not import reminders on an Internet Calendar and you can not have a default reminder, in Googlemail you can set up a default
reminder for URL Calendars. The Calendar is set to only be downloaded every 4 hours in this method to stop your site being
hit repeatedly with an update every 60 seconds.
Also the calendar will only display/download details for those leagues that you have joined in your Profile, if you have
joined a league and don’t play it will still appear, if you don’t want it to appear then go to your profile page and uncheck
the box and click the Join Leagues button (remember you will no longer be able to predict in that league).
I have also added an auto reminder so it should come up 1 Day at Midday BEFORE the fixtures need predicting.
